What is Coaching? Coaching is a very organic process. That is what I love about coaching.

The ICF Defines it as:

ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.

Yet, those who have not experienced coaching may still wonder - What is Coaching? What does that definition mean?

I want to be able to answer this in a way that helps others understand it better. Thus, my quest and curiosity to hear the experiences of coaching through the lens of my clients.

So, this was my latest description by a client at the end of our coaching program together when I ask:

"What does coaching now mean to you?"

When he said, MUTUAL RESPECT. The word hit me, it's been a while since I heard this powerful word of "mutuality".

Text on a white background: "Mutual Respect" in bold, followed by a paragraph about creating safe spaces and encouraging mutuality through presence and empathy.

The Mutual Respect he felt created a safe space for sharing his challenges without fear or edit. He knew I would not think less of him - just because..

He was able to tap and look at situations with me in a way that he would not normally do because it takes time, and he may not like what he sees. With a coach that believes that he is creative, resourceful, and whole, he felt safe.

He further adds, by experiencing the power of mutual respect during coaching for himself, he has and will continue to coach his team and that will encourage his team to coach their teams.

The culture created by a leader has a ripple effect on teams. When teams feel safe, creativity and collaboration happen more naturally.

It's about trust through being open to others.

Openness harness collaboration.

Ultimately for many leaders, they are keen to deliver results in an engaging way.

Coaching unlocks many doors and creates healthier more engaging environments at work.
